In early July,  AGR  was contacted by a local breeder of Goldendoodles . Her poodle had recently had a litter of 10 (after having a previous litter of 10 last year) . The breeder had been able to sell only three of the puppies and wanted to surrender the other seven to us figuring that we would have a better  chance of finding new homes for these 9-week-old puppies. We were not able to place any right away, so the AGR Health Care Manager offered to foster the four boys and an AGR foster couple in Phoenix took the three girls. Each identified adoptive family made an appointment to visit the puppies with either foster, depending on whether they wanted a male or a female, respectively. So all had met their puppy before he or she was actually delivered. All the puppies are really nice, appear to be quite smart and are growing well. All needed a complete series of DHPP vaccines and deworming. All will need to be sterilized when they reach a year of age. They have all now been finalized with an addendum for the spay or neuter.

22-045 Pumpkin was chosen by an adoptive family in Peoria. The family had never had a dog so the children were especially excited. The AGR transporter spent some time going over the Your New Dog Manual and some training techniques. She emphasized that all family members should use the same command for the same behavior . Mom is a teacher and knows how important consistency is to learning. The transporter felt that this family will do right by this puppy and that he will have a great life with them. They renamed him Thor. That made us chuckle, as it was like a kid putting on his dad’s galoshes – a very big name for a little boy. But he will grow into it, as both the poodle mother and the Golden father are large dogs .
