Dori was another young Labradoodle about a year and a half old who was purchased by her original owner to be a service dog but who subsequently decided that was not Dori’s lot in life. Dori was obtained from a service dog trainer, and was good with other dogs and kids and obviously well behaved, as she had earned her Canine Good Citizenship badge. She only needed routine vet work, and her adopter was totally ecstatic to take Dori home with her. She has already updated us: Dori has embraced her new life. She loves lying outside and chasing the ball in the yard. She is like the annoying little sister to Louie, our 8-year-old Golden. She loves chasing the birds. She is very well behaved inside. She is very different from all my Goldens... she isn’t motivated by food. She barely will take a treat. She loves the dog park. She runs and runs, but she barks... a lot. She has a lot of energy, so it tires her out. She loves a soft brushing and belly rubs. She loves people and everyone loves meeting her. Interestingly, she was reported to walk well on a leash. I have found that to be a challenge. She is crazy for bunnies which can pop out anywhere. She is 100% focused on looking for them and pulls and goes crazy if she sees one. I’ve trained lots of dogs, but I think I need a trainer for the trainer! Her gentle nature and sweetness have been helpful in mending my broken heart over the sudden loss of my Golden, Jack. I know he would have loved playing ball and running with Dori. I look forward to many happy years with Dori.
