Puppy, now Summer, is a wriggly handful of Golden puppy that came to AGR because her breeder was unable to sell her. She developed puppy strangles, more properly termed juvenile cellulitis, which is a syndrome of lethargy, facial dermatitis, external ear infections, and significant swelling of the lymph nodes around the head and neck. Pustules and nodules on the skin can drain a sterile purulent fluid which many may confuse for pus. Early treatment with steroids to decrease inflammation and manage the overactive immune system can help decrease the risk of scarring around the nose, eyes, and ears. Summer is now living with her new adoptive family. She has continued her prednisone treatment and is recovered from her strangles. Our AGR behaviorist has visited to help with some puppy training, and the family is doing very well managing an energetic Golden puppy. We anticipate seeing the whole family at future AGR events, and we wish Summer and her family a happy, healthy life together!
