In early July, AGR was contacted by a local breeder of Goldendoodles . Her poodle had recently had a litter of 10 (after having a previous litter of 10 last year) . The breeder had been able to sell only three of the puppies and wanted to surrender the other seven to us figuring that we would have a better chance of finding new homes for these 9-week-old puppies. We were not able to place any right away, so the AGR Health Care Manager offered to foster the four boys and an AGR foster couple in Phoenix took the three girls. Each identified adoptive family made an appointment to visit the puppies with either foster, depending on whether they wanted a male or a female, respectively. So all had met their puppy before he or she was actually delivered. All the puppies are really nice, appear to be quite smart and are growing well. All needed a complete series of DHPP vaccines and deworming. All will need to be sterilized when they reach a year of age. They have all now been finalized with an addendum for the spay or neuter. 22-049 Precious was the first puppy chosen by her forever family in Phoenix . They wanted to take her home from the foster's house, but that is not how we do things. AGR transported the puppy to them just a couple hours after they met her. The entire family including their two adult sons, was waiting with bated breath for the transporter to arrive. Once at the home, introduction to Asha, a 5-month-old Goldendoodle was done – it went well, although Asha seemed a little miffed at the competition for attention, but everyone knew she’d get over it . That evening during a family meeting with considerable discussion, the name Kaya was chosen as the puppy’s new name – the adopter said the name has Scandinavian and Greek origin meaning “pure .” When asked to comment on how the puppy has been doing, she replied: One of life’s greatest gifts is getting a dog. Kaya came to us on July 10 at ten weeks old. We were super excited to receive one of 7 Goldendoodle puppies that were rescued just a few days before. We noticed immediately that Kaya was an observer, calm and cautious. We gave her time to adjust and explore her new surroundings. Little Kaya immediately took a liking to her older (by 3 months) Goldendoodle sister, Asha, and the two of them have become fast friends. Watching Kaya play and learn new tricks from Asha is endearing. Counter surfing is one of them but don’t tell anyone I shared this with you. When we introduced Kaya to outside activities such as walking, she was unsure and hesitant at first. With a little patience, a few more tries, and carrying her in our arms, Kaya realized that walking is the best thing ever, and now she loves our daily adventures. She is still learning to walk properly on the leash, but she is getting there. Kaya has this beautiful soft fur and intelligent eyes that are hidden behind her cute bangs. They remind me of little dark moving buttons, and they will melt your heart every time you look at them. It is such a blessing to get to watch Kaya grow, chase butterflies, run through the yard, and bark at strange sounds. She is a gentle bundle of joy and Mama’s shadow. We feel that Kaya is our little gift from Emma (#09-010) who crossed the bridge in February of this year. Kaya surely made our family complete again. Kaya has already attended her first AGR event – she was one of our meet-and-greeters during the golf tournament registration and got a lot of attention from the golfers, which she loved. We hope to see her at many more events.
