Sophie, about 3 years old, was rescued in China from the meat trader trucks in Harbin. She spent a week in the overcrowded shelter before being pulled and taken to a clean, safe medical facility where she was treated for dehydration. She was reported to be very affectionate and walks well on a leash. She received her DHPP and rabies vaccinations in China, but we have found that Maricopa County will not accept an out-of-country rabies vaccination, so we have had to have all the China dogs revaccinated for rabies. Sophie spent some time in a foster boarding facility where she received human interaction and better nourishment. Once here, Sophie tested positive for hookworm, but she was clean after the treatment. Sophie was not one of the two female China dogs that went into heat and had to be re-spayed here, but we issued an addendum with finalization for a spay just in case she should start bleeding vaginally.  Sophie was one of the favorites of the October transporters and she is definitely a favorite with her new adoptive family . They wrote:

Growing up with a Golden Retriever, I always knew that I would love these dogs. When we applied through Arizona Golden Rescue and heard that Sophie would be coming all the way from China, I knew we might be in for some curveballs. Waiting proved to be the hardest part, and when she finally plopped out of the car in our driveway, our hearts melted. Isaac, our first dog, was skeptical of this new dog stealing attention, but we could see that Sophie was a perfect fit. Isaac quickly assumed his place as a protective big brother, has helped Sophie learn some English commands and challenged her pace on her first hike of South Mountain. Aside from one round of treatment for parasites, we cannot believe how lucky we are to have had AGR bring this sweet girl into our lives. She has become our second dog shadow, following us and Isaac around every corner, up every mountain and into the car, every chance she gets. We love Sophie so much and cannot wait to have more adventures with her as a part of our family.
