Maverick is a 2½-year-old purebred Golden. He was quite hyper, supposedly not socialized, and kept in a crate most of the time because the owner did not have time to train him. They did not have time to take him to a vet, either, so not only did we have to have all his vaccines done, have him tested for valley fever and heartworm, but we also had to have him neutered. His adopter was wanting a companion for her resident dog, Riley. She was contacted the day after Maverick was transported to her. She said Maverick was settling in and he and Riley were doing great. She walked him for an hour in the morning with the choker and he pulled like crazy at first, but then slowed down. He’s learning the dog door and slept all night in the crate in her room. She put the bones and toys back out but the boys are getting along and she says Riley is being great about it. Riley seems genuinely happy, and Maverick adores Riley. After just a week with him, the adopter said Maverick is doing wonderful, sleeps with her on the bed, is often a couch potato, plays a lot with toys on his own, and likes exploring. He likes the dog door and the yard. She is working from home now, so she takes him for long walks and trains along the way – he still needs work on pulling but is making progress. She says he is really good with other dogs he meets. She takes Riley for separate walks to give him attention and has gone out for an hour or so leaving Maverick out of his crate. He has done nothing in the house while alone. She is very happy with him. She knows exercise is the key to getting him settled down. We are so pleased for them all!
