In early July, AGR was contacted by a local breeder of Goldendoodles . Her poodle had recently had a litter of 10 (after having a previous litter of 10 last year) . The breeder had been able to sell only three of the puppies and wanted to surrender the other seven to us figuring that we would have a better chance of finding new homes for these 9-week-old puppies. We were not able to place any right away, so the AGR Health Care Manager offered to foster the four boys and an AGR foster couple in Phoenix took the three girls. Each identified adoptive family made an appointment to visit the puppies with either foster, depending on whether they wanted a male or a female, respectively. So all had met their puppy before he or she was actually delivered. All the puppies are really nice, appear to be quite smart and are growing well. All needed a complete series of DHPP vaccines and deworming. All will need to be sterilized when they reach a year of age. They have all now been finalized with an addendum for the spay or neuter. 22-046 Johnny went home to an adoptive couple who had adopted a purebred Golden named Oakley from AGR at the end of 2015. At the time, the adopter's mother was living with them and had a small dog that became the Golden’s best buddy. Since then, both the mother and the little dog passed away, so Oakley was lonely. When the adopter saw the ad on our Facebook page, she immediately applied to adopt one of the male puppies. Johnny chose her when she visited the foster's house . He climbed into her lap and didn’t want to leave. A few days after the transporter delivered the puppy, the adopter wrote: Pete will be his name. It was my dad’s name, and he comes to it without hesitation. So Pete it is. They are doing well. Oak is a good teacher. We had a very good night. Pete went to sleep in the crate in our bedroom with us and Oak last night. Oak lay next to the crate. Pete told us with one yelp when it was potty time and we went out 3 times by 5 am. Quick business trips, with no hesitation, and right back in to bed- room on his own trot with Oak. Back in the crate, piano music on and he was back out. So I would say it was a great night. He has pooped 4 times since arrival, with the last one right after breakfast. He eats and drinks well, while aspiring to get big enough to get to Oakley's water bowl. So he barks at Oak about it. Actually today he is vocal to his toys and my feet also. He is a very good boy and we love him. Both boys are lying at my office door on the cool tile resting now. Pete is very smart, just like Oak. The adopters wanted to use their own vet and offered to take over all vetting costs – we appreciate that very much .
