Millman, now Cooper, when surrendered to AGR was a 5½-week-old Goldendoodle (mother was a half-and-half Golden-Poodle and father was a purebred Golden) who was thought to have a congenital life-threatening medical condition called Persistent Right Aortic Arch (PRAA) that constricts the esophagus. This condition causes food to come up behind the soft palate and out the nose. Surgery could fix the problem and the puppy could then have a normal life, but his surrendering owner could not afford the necessary medical care and turned to AGR to save him. We hustled the puppy over to Animal Medical & Surgical Center for a thorough evaluation. After five days of extensive diagnostic procedures, they determined that the puppy did not have PRAA after all and was spewing food because he had a sensitive stomach and could not hold down the liquid that was added to the kibble. In fact, nothing at all was discovered to be wrong with this puppy, except that, perhaps, he had been weaned at too young an age. Once he was started on plain kibble (Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Puppy) with no added liquid, he was fine. He was fostered until he was 13 weeks old and had had three sets of vaccines. His weight was monitored carefully, and he grew from 5 pounds at intake to 28 pounds at 13 weeks, and at his four-month vet visit, he weighed 44 pounds! When it was time for him to go to his forever home, he was welcomed enthusiastically by an adoptive couple and resident Golden canine, Sultan. Sultan has taken Cooper under his paw and continues to teach him proper canine behavior. Cooper is now almost as big as Sultan and still growing at 5 months of age. Thank you, AGR, for saving this precious youngster! This puppy was the first Goldendoodle that any of us had raised from such a young age. It has been very interesting watching his appearance change from looking very Golden when he was first surrendered to now looking much more Poodle-like.
